I-39 Smokin Car Show Named Automatic Qualifier for World Food Championships


The I-39 Smokin Car Show will have a featured representative at the 2017 World Food Championships in Orange Beach, Alabama, according to Mike McCloud, CEO of the World Food Championships.

“More than 400 pre-qualified competitors will enter one of nine competition categories beginning Nov. 8, and the champion of the I-39 Smokin Car Show will be among them,” McCloud said.

The I-39 Smokin Car Show is sending a winner from its 2017 event to compete against the World Food Championships roster of Golden Ticket contestants.

“Stakes are high and the competition is intense with a total purse of $350,000 in cash and additional prizes, while the ultimate World Food Champion takes home a grand prize of $100,000,” McCloud said.

There are four categories to test your BBQ skills.  Judging will begin at noon on Sunday July 2nd.  Categories and judgings times are below:


12:00 noon - Chicken

12:30 PM    - Pork Ribs

1:00 pm     - Pork - shoulder or butt

1:30 pm     - Beef Brisket




All KCBS rules and regulations will be followed.  All meat must be cooked with wood or charcoal on site. Limit one entry per category. By registering for this event you agree to to abide by the rules and regulations of the Kansas City Barbeque Society and waiver of liability.  Only one vehicle per entry will be allowed within the contestant parking area.  No electricity for RV's will be provided but there will be electricity for cooking if needed.


Set-up for this event begins Saturday July 1st at 7am in the parking lot on the 500 block of Chestnut Street.  Friday night set-up availble upon request.

Backyard BBQ - for the average Joe



  1. All KCBS rules and regulations will be followed and can be found here.
  2. Check-in is from 7am to 9am at the North West corner of Chestnut and 5th Street.
  3. All cooks must be present at 9:00 am for a cooks meeting at the registration tent.
  4. There will be no parking at the cook site but there will be a drop off area for equipment.
  5. Contestants are to prepare Pork Ribs and Chicken for judging.  You must supply your own meat.
  6. Judging begins at 2:00 pm.  Teams must submit enough meat for six judges to sample. 
  7. Entries are judged on appearance, tenderness, and taste.
  8. Backyard contestants may use wood, or charcoal. 
  9. No pits, open holes or digging of any kind.
  10. There is no electricity available and tables and chairs will not be provided.
